Talented People

This is my grandmother and I - she is one talented lady.  She is the oldest of 13 children, who grew up in the Depression on a cotton farm.  You can imagine how poor they all were.  Despite these challenges or maybe because of them, my grandmother is one of the most talented people I know.  She can sew, cook like nobody's business, can, garden, etc.  She is awesome, and she is the last of my four grandparents still living.  I am so thankful for grandparents, they are such a gift from God and I'm so blessed to still have her in my life.

Speaking of her talents - she took this heap of fabric and pillow forms...

and turned them into this...I think they turned out great, especially for around 50 bucks for the fabric and pillows.  She is so talented!  I'm sad to say, I struggle to sew on a button!

While I'm showing you the new pillows, here is a view of the living room.  Very cabin - esque, I suppose.  My old house was very girly, with tons of pinks, whites, and green, but I didn't want T to feel like he was living in a sorority house, so I thought this was a pretty good compromise (and he got to keep his deer head, which surprisingly has grown on me).

This lamp is my new HomeGoods find...Love it and that store.  I do serious damage there...

Again, we have deer...everywhere.

And like a crazy person, I went out and bought firewood this weekend.  Keep in mind, we live in Savannah and its still so hot as hades down here - I'm still wearing shorts and my poor pansies look like they are on the brink of death.  I think I've lost my mind, and so does T, but I'm ready for cold weather.  I thought buying firewood would be like some sort of rain dance, and would make it finally get here!

Your home is so pretty, warm, and cozy -- I can see why you are itching to get the fire going! My youngest would LOVE your deer head. We walk past our village inn every morning on the way to drop my eldest off at school and they have an assortment of deer heads and a buffalo head... we've named them all and have daily conversations with them. :) your pillows are lovely too - you've still got your girly details in there. make sure your grandma teaches you to sew!!

Oh, Katie! Just drive up the road about 3-4 hours and you can have that fire. Of course, my sinus problems are in full force. 65 during the day and 30 at night. But at least we get a fire at night. And I will tell you a little secret....my mother is a hunter. Yes, my mother. My daddy has NEVER hunted. My mother is a mini Emily Post (even wears camoflauge earrings when she hunts), but hunts! We always had deer hanging around my house when I was little.

Just saw your comment! Yes, we are big dawg fans around here. My husband is one of those "obnoxious" fans.

As for my mother.....she is a BIG mess. This is the craziest thing. She is hunting on the weekends and building a house during the week (well, driivng the builders crazy). Every single detail has to be perfect and amazing. Last week she called my dad to tell him that he needed to bring her his truck because she killed an 8 pointer and didn't want to put it in the back of the Land Cruiser. Seriously???

I loved this post. I stumbled upon your blog and when I read what you wrote about your grandma I felt a connection. I wrote something similar about my dear grandma not too long ago. Their generation truly amazes me. I wish I had just a little of the talent and creativity that my grandma possessed. Nice to meet you and I'm now following :)

My husband's cousin has a deer head in his house, he kept spraying it with Febreeze because it had an "odor" to it. It makes me laugh every time I think about it. Your house is super cute! (I love Savannah! It's one of my favorite places!!!)
