Why I need to learn to cook...

Since reading Julia Child's, My Life in France, I've been inspired!
She makes me want to cook
well
(mother, don't laugh)

Does anyone actually have her cookbook?
I may put it on my birthday list

I have lots of cookbooks,
but really I hardly ever cook, especially since we don't have a dishwasher at the lake!
I love reading them though, and dreaming of one day becoming a gourmet chef!

I can cook pretty good shrimp and grits, I can make a lots of different desserts, and I can scramble an egg, but thats probably the extent of my culinary skill - why have they done away with home ec?!?

These are a few cookbooks I wouldn't mind having on my shelf, or in storage (which is where all the rest of mine are - sad)

This girl seems fun - I watched her show while we were at the beach, and I really liked her!
Plus, 5 ingredients!  I believe even a novice like me can handle that!

 Love Ina Garten
She just makes me happy
Plus, any cookbook title that is "how easy is that?", I need!

Can Gwyneth really cook?
Who cares?!?
She can sing and she is a goop

Paula can seriously cook - I've never been disappointed in her recipes!
She has great "menu" ideas, as well!

In other news, I have a new friend
meet Torg
He comes out every morning when the sprinklers go off
I guess for his morning shower!  Isn't he cute?

In other, other news why hasn't pinterest sent me an invite yet?!?
Im eager to start pinning!

I like your new friend! He's super cute :-)
I have Mastering the Art of French Cooking. It's pretty straightforward, reads more like a book, and has lots of recipes that aren't intimidating. You should give it a whirl.
And I wish I could cook shrimp and grits!

I admit I have the Julia cookbook...but to be perfectly honest, it completely intimidates me! I'm so terrified of it.
I love cookbooks too and have WAY too many I never use, yet can't part with.
Learning to cook was one of my resolutions this year. I'm definitely getting better, but have so very far to go. I like easy recipes that taste good. Let me know if you have any suggestions and I would LOVE to know how you make your shrimp and grits! MMMmmmmmmm.

hey! I just found your blog and I love it! Because of your previous post about Cumberland Island I have already started planning a trip...it looks like everything I love about the south- natural beauty, history and being on the water!
You definitely have a new follower, can't wait to read more!

I'll send you a pinterest invite and see if that speeds things up. It's addicting and it's eating up my blogging time. Another guilty pleasure added to the list! So....cooking....I LOVE to cook. Not a gourmet chef by any stretch, but I do spend a great deal of time in the kitchen. French food is my favorite, but the more Provencal kind nothing froo-froo. While I come from a long line of really incredible cooks, I didn't learn as much from my Mom, for me I had subscriptions to Bon Appetite and Cooking Light and each month I would make my way through trying all sorts of new recipes. Also, Ina's other cookbooks are staples for me. (You can skip "How Easy Is That" - it's not her best work, the recipes are fussy, and the photography isn't great either) Her others are INCREDBILE though. My eldest son is begging to film me cooking to post on my blog. I've thought about maybe once a week this summer making something delicious but fast. I have soooo many friends that want to cook more but aren't sure where to start. Whew! Hello long comment, hope you aren't driving while you read this!! xo, Tessa

I've got the Paula Deen cookbook as well as several Ina cookbooks and some Giada too. But you know what I keep coming back to? Old school church cookbooks passed down from my mother and grandmother. Granted, some call for strange ingredients like oleo, and there aren't too many light recipes (and tons of casseroles) but I like cooking retro dishes once in a while!

You know I ADORE cookbooks! Love them. Constantly buying new ones!!! You NEED to add the America's Test Kitchen Cookbooks to your collection. They are fabulous and foolproof.

1) America's Test Kitchen Family Cookbook
2)America's Test Kitchen Family Baking Book
3)America's test kitchen Healthy Family Cookbook

They are so amazing that we often give them as wedding gifts. They may be the best cookbooks you'll ever own.

Also try "The Comfort Table" by Katie Lee Joel (now just Katie Lee)

I can spend hours watching the food network, and thinking about all of the wonderful meals I am going to prepare.... except I never actually make them. Someday when I have a kitchen bigger than a pea :) And your turtle is adorable!
