Up & Away

So recently, a hang gliding competition was held in our tiny town, so one afternoon we all went to check it out.

The main reason we went was to see my mother-in-law tandem hang gliding!  The hang gliders put an ad on the radio and my mil jumped at the chance to go.  She is sort of awesome like that.

The competition was at the airport in town.  Needless to say, our airport doesn't have a ton of traffic, so we were able to walk on the runway and watch her take off.  Kind of crazy, but I guess its a perfect to living in a small town ;)

The day was perfect.
Can you see the rain storm in the distance?

Although they provided helmets, my mil brought her own.
Her horseback riding helmet...ah, I love it.  I think her guide was impressed.

Her guide did look a bit like Carrot Top, without all the plastic surgery.  He was SO nice and apparently, is some sort of top ranked hang glider.

And they are off!!!

This tiny (and I mean tiny) lightweight plane pulls you up till you hit about 2,000 feet then they release you.  By the time you hit your target height, the hang glider looks like a glorified buzzard!

Landing!
This is a picture of one her friends landing, but you get the idea.  Both ladies had quite the fan club waiting on them.

Seriously, could not have been a more perfect Thursday.

In other news, I bought these goodies at the gas station yesterday.  Peaches and yellow squash.
Did I mention there is a fruit stand at our gas station?   Yeap, there is and it is awesome.  Oh and did I also mention, they pump your gas for you?  Is it sad that I get excited about going to the gas station every 2 weeks?!?  It is the little things in life, I guess.

My fruit bowl now runneth over!

My hydrangeas are also in full bloom.  I made 5 arrangements yesterday with some of the blooms and you can't even tell outside.  This was my fav.  I love this color.  Blue and white overload :)

I stopped by the library, too.  (It was a very productive day, obviously :)

This was on the new shelf:

Love Fannie Flagg, but I've only read one of her books.  Decided to remedy that.

And don't judge.  I'm re-reading HP.

Tonight, I'm making this!  Tessa has raved about it on IG and so I've decided I must make have it.  It involves all ingredients I love:  cheese, bread, tomatoes, and basil.  It can't be bad, right?  Has anyone made this yet?  I'm in love with Ina Garten - I cannot get enough of her cookbooks.  Her last one was perfection.

Well, thats all for today.  I'll leave you with some more of my hydrangea bouquets.
Have a great week, Loves!

This Weekend...And Last

So this weekend...
I did a lot of little stuff, like the organizational stuff that you put off until it's raining outside (which it was)...stuff like cleaning out your makeup bag and bathroom drawers...and laundry....lots of laundry.  Ugh.  I did manage to squeeze in some yard work with this little one as my helper.  She jumped in there herself...I swear.

And I did a total happy dance when this came in the mail!
Part of my new bedding!  Yay!  Our bedroom is the last room to be decorated.  It was/is a hideous mess, but I have patiently been waiting to tackle this project and lots of stuff is in the works.

Finally, the sun came out, so T and I headed to the lake.
This cocktail was delicious.  Delicious!

I've also decided this is my summer jam.
Love this song!

So that was pretty much this weekend....

but, last weekend I went home...home, home.
Is it normal that I still call my parent's house, home...other people do that, right?
Anyway, this is "my" front yard ... when you live on a farm, cows in your front yard is totally normal.
I want this picture made into a painting.  It's one of my favorites.

Mom and I headed to Scott's Antique Market in Atlanta to do a little shopping on Saturday.
I found a headboard!
This is the fabric...

and this is the shape.

I had recently pinned this picture and was so pumped to find a similar option there.

The only other things I picked up were 2 oak hydrangeas and this little milk glass "vase" which I love, love, love.  It was 3 bucks.  Mom bought it for me.  I heart her...she is the best.

The perfect little size for my kitchen window.

Well, that's all for now, loves!!!  Have a great week :)

T said not to put this picture on instagram...but I felt like the blog was fair game :)

xx.

reading nook

The other day I needed a break, so I went to hang in one of my favorites rooms in our "new" house,
the sunroom, which opens up to the patio.

The old owners of our house used this room as a playroom, but obviously it works best as reading nook/relaxing room for us.  I love sitting in here with the door open.  If it's hot, just turn on the fan and it's perfect.

I know I mentioned it in my last post but this room was no exception to the "we painted every room in our house" statement.  This room was lime green which totally worked as a kids play area, but we have loved the change to cream walls.  I'll have to do a before/after post soon.

These are my favorite things in the yard - they are located right outside the sunroom.
Can't wait for them to be in full bloom.

These aloe plants are the newest addition to the yard.  Who doesn't love an aloe plant?  I always remember my grandmother having one.  A burn or scratch was not so bad bc she always let me pluck a little piece off and rub it on my "wound" - I always thought that was so cool.   Mom sent me home with a huge basket full of little aloe plants and I've planted several of them.  Here is hoping one of the lives.

I don't know if I've showed y'all a picture of the yard yet, but here she is!
We have done a ton of work back here and I can't wait to do a before and after post.  This is just a little preview.  T has worked so hard - he claims working in the yard is his therapy.  Somedays I think it might be true.

Anyway, back to the sunroom - it's even cozier with my little lamp on.

All this space needs is a good book.
Reading this again - I forgot how good it is.  Harper Lee is a genius.

So with that, I hope y'all have a great weekend and have some time to curl
up with your favorite book!!!
xx.

PS.  What are you reading this summer?

PSS.  Love this...
Feel this way all the time... :)

hey hey

helllooooo
i've been away from the blogworld for a while now (i know, i feel like i keep saying this), but lately i've missed keeping y'all up to date on our lives.  i look back on my blog and i'm so glad i have documented so much of our first year of marriage.  lately, time seems to be slipping by so fast.  i cannot believe it is may, MAY!  so with that, my goal is simply to slow down more and reflect by writing down what we've been up to more.  plus, blogland is fun.

so first off, we have been painting.  still painting.
we've painted every room in our house.
and every hallway.
sometimes twice...
but, we are finished painting!
happy dance...

anyway, this is our bedroom.
yeap, didn't go with either of these sample colors.
chose the one on the left.
painted the whole room.
then painted it again...with a different color.
the things we do to perfect our nest.

birdie supervising the painting of my closet.

in other news, i've become obsessed with this new iphone feature.
hello...police scanner!  my grandparents used to have a police scanner and i can remember listing to it when i spent the night at their house.  crazy i now have one on my phone!

my mother is retired now.
and she is making lip balms.
needless to say, i think she is enjoying retirement.

some big news i haven't shared on the blog yet is that we bought some land.
a mini farm of sorts.
it came with 4 miniature donkeys, a pony, a horse, and a gazillion feral cats.
i can't wait to show more pictures of the barn and animals.
it has been a labor of love so far.
t and his dad just finished building this new fence.
such talented men.
now to paint it - my job - hope i can pick a color!!! ;)

and for a sneak pic, here are the donkeys.

and this was my valentines present from t.
good to know i'm his little princess.
someone please help him.

we just got a new lawn mower.
birdie approves.
t is in heaven.

how gorg is this spread at a luncheon i was recently at?
straight out of a magazine.  thought it was just too pretty not to share.

we babysat our niece one night this winter.
she was perfect.
but we literally were sooooo tired after she left.

i heart cheese.

this was birdie's favorite napping spot this winter...
under the comforter in the guest room.
i looked for her one day for an hour...and this is where i found her.
rotten.

we visited nyc in the winter too
looooved it.
it was my first time visiting.  cannot wait to get back there.

i listened to the phantom pandora station for like 3 months after i got back.
